September 15th, Headmaster Email

Good day parents,
Mark your calendars - No School:
In line with the national and provincial example, there will be no school this Monday, September 19th, in observance of the national day of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II.
Be sure your calendars include no school on September 29th (Professional Development) and September 30th (Truth & Reconciliation Day).
Off campus day:
Once a month our church hosts a seniors luncheon in our lower auditorium, but as you are already aware we are very tight on space. As a result, we are planning to take the students off campus to Stuart Wood Elementary Park, for an extended lunch (11:25am – 12:50pm). We did this a few times last year and the students loved the extra space to run around and play. We do require extra parent supervision help for this day to ensure student safety. If you are able to come along please let me know via email. We will be sending permission forms home today.
Policy & Protection Training:
Our insurance requires FBCA to train all staff and volunteers annually in our children & youth protection policy. If you plan to volunteer or work with students this year, please make arrangements to attend on Thursday, September 29th from 1-2 PM. (If you are member of FBC, this is the same policy for the church, so it counts for both). Please let me know if you cannot attend, and we will make alternative arrangements. There will be no childcare provided, so if you have little ones, please arrange for a babysitter.
**Note: this does include sensitive topics of signs of child abuse, and as such, some individuals prefer to read this portion privately. If that's the case, let me know, and I will provide you with the materials.
Housekeeping note:
I hope that all of our new students are settling in well. We ask that parents drop off their students at the door or in the foyer and not enter the classrooms in the morning. After class is dismissed, there is often some time to speak with a teacher. You are always welcome to schedule a time with a teacher or me. To set up an appointment, please get in touch with Elysha Patterson.

Lunch Notes:
We do not allow students to trade or share lunches for allergy and organizational reasons.
We are in need of lunch supervisors regularly. Please use the following link to sign up for any day you are available. September Lunch Supervision (zeffy.com) If you have any issues using the Zeffy link, please contact Elysha in the office.
Grade 7-9
All grade 7 through 9 students will need a lock for their classroom lockers. These lockers only need to be locked over the weekend. Please speak with Lydia or Luke if you have any questions.
Proper Indoor/Outdoor Shoes:
Just a earlier reminder that winter is coming and students will need both inside and outside shoes! This helps to keep the floors in the building a little cleaner during the winter months. Students are welcome to leave their indoor shoes here during the week, but they must go home on Fridays. Our building is changed over for church purposes on the weekend, and we cannot guarantee that items left behind by students will be easily found when they come back on Monday. If students do not bring a change of shoes, they may be required to stay after school to help sweep or mop the floors as necessary.
In Christ,
James Casson
