A New Private School is opening its doors in Kamloops

First Baptist Classical Academy, a classical and Christian school, is announcing its plans to open to the public of Kamloops for the start of the 2018-2019 School Year. The new classical school is currently enrolling students for Kindergarten through Grade 5.
Parents Show Interest
“A number of parents in and around Kamloops have expressed significant interest in a school that follows the classical methodology that breaks learning down into the three stages of Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric,” said Dustin Savage, one of the founding members for the school. “The movement was inspired by Dorothy Sayers’ essay ‘The Lost Tools of Learning.’ The goal is to develop complete thinkers who learn to draw on faith and reason for the purpose of honoring God in their lives. We don’t want to teach children what to think. We want to teach children how to think.”
A Classical Curriculum
A classical curriculum is designed to provide an outstanding foundation in core academic disciplines, and emphasizes history, formal logic, rhetoric, the Great Books curriculum, and classic languages, all centered around the study of the Bible and Christian faith. Latin is introduced in elementary, but students will also be given the choice of learning Koine Greek or Hebrew in the later grade levels in order to better understand the Scriptures.
Another way that Classical schools differ from other schools is that students in secondary grades are expected to not only formulate their own opinions on the subject matter, but defend their opinions against the criticism of their peers and teachers. Rhetoric and the persuasive argument of ideas are viewed as the culmination of all education, best equipping the student to be a responsible and contributing member of any community.
Start Enrolling Today
First Baptist Classical Academy is currently enrolling students in K through 5. Kamloops parents should keep in mind that enrollment involves an interview with the Pastor of First Baptist Church, as well as an academic entrance exam in order to assess the students academic standing and best fit within the academy. For more information about the school, parents are encouraged to call 250-828-6222 and schedule a visit. “We want parents involved as much as possible. The school is here to serve them” says Savage. “Our school administrators and faculty will gladly answer questions.”
